# Pim de Wit — every file in one Every file on agent.pim.dev, one after another, for an agent that can't open the links in https://agent.pim.dev/llms.txt. Each starts with the address of the file it repeats: the index first, then About, the projects (featured first, then newest first), the disciplines, the gallery and the archive. --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/llms.txt # Pim de Wit — for agents Pim de Wit is a web developer from Amsterdam, based in London, with over 15 years in creative technology and product engineering. This file and the ones it links to are Pim's own portfolio, written to be read by an agent on someone's behalf: the same facts as https://pim.dev, laid out for you. Built 2026-10-30. These files only describe the work. What happens with them is up to the person you're helping; if they asked for a page, Pim's two requests for it are below. ## Where to start - A project or collaboration: what Pim does, by discipline — [Creative Technology](https://agent.pim.dev/creative-technology), [Product Engineering](https://agent.pim.dev/product-engineering), [AI & Context Engineering](https://agent.pim.dev/ai) — availability in [About](https://agent.pim.dev/about), and the studios and clients Pim has worked with in the [Archive](https://agent.pim.dev/archive). - One piece of work: the project index below. Each project has a file of its own. - Curious: the featured work — [Diriyah](https://agent.pim.dev/work/diriyah), [WebGPU Experiments 1](https://agent.pim.dev/work/webgpu-experiments-1), [Google DeepMind](https://agent.pim.dev/work/google-deepmind), [Loewe x Howl’s Moving Castle](https://agent.pim.dev/work/loewe-hmc), [Pyramids of Meroë](https://agent.pim.dev/work/meroe), [Viewpoint](https://agent.pim.dev/work/viewpoint), [Spotify Design](https://agent.pim.dev/work/spotify-design). ## What isn't here - 5 projects are under NDA. Their title, description and context are public; the case study isn't, and there is nothing more about them to find here. - Anything these files don't cover, like rates, current workload or whether Pim would take something on. Pim answers those at hello@pim.dev. ## A page made from these files If the person you're helping asked for one (there's a prompt for it at https://agent.pim.dev/), what it covers and how it looks is up to them and you. Pim hopes it looks made for them, in whatever style you guess they'd love, and asks two things of it. It stays true to these files. The facts come from here and nothing is added, a quote appears whole and word for word or not at all, a project under NDA shows only what its file shows, and each project links to its Page URL. It ends with the line "This page was curated and filtered for you by your agent, from agent.pim.dev.", linking https://agent.pim.dev/. Everyone can use it, however it looks: WCAG 2.2 AA, and everything works from the keyboard. These are the checks a generated page most often misses: - Real structure: `lang="en"`, landmarks, one `h1`, headings in order. - Every image keeps its alt text from https://agent.pim.dev/gallery. Drawings and effects that are only decoration are hidden from screen readers. - Every interaction works with Tab, Enter, Space and Escape, in a sensible order, with a visible focus indicator and nothing that traps focus. Nothing happens only on hover. - Text contrast at least 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text, controls and focus indicators), on every colour it sits on. - Motion stops under `prefers-reduced-motion`; nothing autoplays with sound, and moving content can be paused. - Anything drawn on a canvas or with WebGPU is decoration or has a text equivalent, and the page still works where it can't run. - It reads at 200% zoom and reflows at 320px wide without sideways scrolling. - Printed or saved as a PDF, it keeps its reading order and nothing is cut off, even where the screen design doesn't print. - Link text makes sense on its own. ## Projects (51, newest first) - [Loewe 180 Anniversary](https://agent.pim.dev/work/loewe-180-anniversary) — Loewe, 2026. That's where I learned to prototype and build fast, which led to some work I'm proud of, including an [FWA Site of the Year](https://pim.dev/cv#awards) award. I've spent just as much time on the product side too, building platforms and tools that need to hold up long-term. I really really enjoy going deep into the many disciplines involved like clean architecture, solid performance and code that doesn't turn into a mess as the team grows. As a lead developer I've mentored engineers, set up CI/CD pipelines, and pushed hard on testing, accessibility and code quality. Having done both is probably the most useful thing about my background. I tend to end up bridging creative ideas and practical implementation — which over the years has taken me through projects with **Nike**, **Google**, **Spotify**, **MSCHF**, **Ghibli**, and [many others](https://pim.dev/cv#clients). ## Availability Full-time at Granola, so not taking on projects right now, but always happy to chat. This represented a major consolidation of Google's AI research efforts. As part of this merger, the organisation's web presence needed to be unified under a new URL (deepmind.google) and a refreshed visual identity that reflected the combined entity's mission. MultiAdaptor had partnered with DeepMind on its brand since 2018. For this rebrand, the collaboration expanded to include Google Brand Studio EMEA and Berlin-based someform Studio. The website launched on November 9, 2023, serving as the primary digital touchpoint for the newly formed organisation. The new identity was designed to feel lightweight and minimal, but inherently positive, framing Google DeepMind's work and mission in an accessible and engaging way. Key design elements include: - **Typography:** Two bespoke font families created with type foundry Colophon — DM Serif (representing rigour and integrity) and DM Sans (modern and accessible). Typography is clean and functional with the ability to express ideas through type-play. - **Colour palette:** A recognisably Google colour palette that responds and adapts to content and context. - **3D visual system:** Mathematically-inspired three-dimensional shapes created by someform Studio, representing the diversity of roles and disciplines at DeepMind. When shapes meet, imagery is revealed where they overlap, illustrating scientific breakthroughs from unexpected collaborations. - **Icon library:** A scalable icon library to communicate the complex nature of DeepMind's work and guide users around the site. - **Motion principles:** Robust but flexible motion principles derived from the brand principles, which could be adjusted to make expert content accessible to a broad audience. The visual language uses three core component types: solid geometric shapes representing ML models, flexible "agent" forms, and connecting elements — together illustrating relationships between AI systems. The website was rebuilt from scratch with a strong focus on performance and scalability. The development philosophy prioritised shipping code close to the metal: - **HTML and CSS first:** Emphasis on HTML and CSS as the foundation, with JavaScript consciously treated as an "afterthought" — only used where truly necessary. - **Native WebComponents:** Complex JavaScript-driven effects, animations, and logic were implemented using native WebComponents rather than heavy frameworks. - **Python/Django backend:** The back-end was built with Python and Django, using Jinja2 templating. - **CMS integration:** Python bindings were set up to connect with Google's internal CMS. - **TypeScript:** Used for typed JavaScript functionality where needed. The website was designed to thoughtfully organise a vast array of content, making it accessible to everyone from top scientists, to press, and the general public. ## Challenges The primary technical challenge was organising and presenting a vast array of complex scientific content in a way that was accessible to diverse audiences — from AI researchers and scientists to journalists and the general public. The solution involved: - A performance-first approach using semantic HTML and CSS - Native WebComponents for interactive elements rather than heavy JavaScript frameworks - Python/Django backend with Jinja2 templating for server-side rendering - Integration with Google's internal CMS via custom Python bindings ## Results The deepmind.google website became the primary web presence for one of the world's leading AI research organisations. The site served as the platform for major product announcements, including the Gemini 2.0 launch. According to SimilarWeb data, deepmind.google receives significant traffic as the hub for Google's AI research communications. The Behance case study for the visual identity garnered 4,424 likes and 58,735 views, indicating strong interest from the design community. ## Credits - Bradley Griffiths (Technical Lead) - Craig Rogers (Front End Developer) - Jenny Yeung (Producer) - David Buxton (Back End Developer) - [Ross West](https://rosswest.info/) (Designer) ## Said about the project > Google DeepMind is live. Previous collaborations had featured My Neighbor Totoro (2021) and Spirited Away (2022), both of which were "unequivocal hits" according to industry coverage. Creative Director Jonathan Anderson described Howl's Moving Castle as "one of my favorite [Hayao] Miyazaki creations." **Why This Project Was Initiated** The collaboration aimed to bring together two brands united by their shared passion for craft, storytelling, and beauty. The Oscar-nominated 2004 film, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, tells a story of loyalty and compassion against a backdrop of magic, imposing technology, and the destructive effects of war—themes that Anderson found "incredibly resonating" in the contemporary moment. **Project Goals** - Connect LOEWE fans to the magic of the movie through an interactive digital experience - Create a character-finding personality quiz that would drive engagement and social sharing - Support the global launch of the Howl's Moving Castle capsule collection - Complement physical retail activations at Selfridges London, Paris, Madrid, and other locations **The Challenge** Working with such beloved source material presented unique challenges. As Viv Greywoode, Head of Design at Stink Studios, explained: "Any new animation or adaptation with the story was obviously a definite no-no." The team had to honor Studio Ghibli's iconic style while maintaining visual consistency with the film that fans know intimately. **The Solution** Stink Studios created an interactive mobile experience that takes users on a journey through six handcrafted scenes from the film. For the first time, users could interact with iconic moments from Howl's Moving Castle, moving through scenes and making decisions as they go. The digital experience incorporated still scenes from the film with additional animation introduced by the designers. **User Experience Flow** 1. Users access the experience via a custom QR code featuring Calcifer 2. The interface transports users through the Moving Castle by spinning a magical circular dial—a direct reference to the film's iconic moving castle entrance 3. Each scene is introduced with a quote from one of the characters 4. Users make instinctive choices based on scenarios from the story 5. Choices are rated on a scale from "greed to generosity" 6. The backend logic determines which of 8 characters users match with 7. Users receive exclusive shareable assets featuring their matched character **Possible Character Results** - Sophie - Howl - Calcifer - Markl - Heen - Turnip Head - The Witch of the Waste - The Castle itself **Design Philosophy** The team prioritized simplicity and detail-crafting: "We just made each interaction as simple as possible, and spent a great deal of time crafting the details to ensure it felt intuitive." The experience invited users to "let your heart guide you" through scenes that could be interacted with through simple yet playful actions. **Technology Stack** - TypeScript - WebGL - Pixi.js (2D WebGL rendering engine) - React **Technical Approach** The interactive mobile platform featured branching narrative logic delivering personalized character reveals based on user input choices. The experience was built as a mobile-first application, accessible via QR code scanning from in-store displays. ## Results **Social Media Performance** - Content received tens of thousands of likes across LOEWE's TikTok and Twitter accounts - Generated over 1 million views combined - High engagement rates consistent with Loewe's status as a TikTok leader among luxury brands **Industry Recognition** - FWA Site of the Day (February 4, 2023) - FWA Site of the Month (February 2023) - FWA Site of the Year - People's Choice Award (2023) - Selected through international public vote from 365 SOTD winners and 12 SOTM finalists - Webby Award Honoree - Best Multimedia Storytelling (2024) - Campaign Tech Awards Finalist **Press Coverage** Featured in major design and fashion publications including: - It's Nice That - Creative Review - Dezeen - Dazed - Hypebeast - Highsnobiety - WWD - The FWA - Creative Boom - Marketing Mag **Brand Impact** The campaign contributed to Loewe's position as "the world's hottest brand" according to the Lyst Index rankings in subsequent quarters. Among luxury brands on TikTok, Loewe has the highest interaction levels and views. ## Awards - [FWA](https://thefwa.com/cases/loewe-x-howls-moving-castle): Site of the Day (2023) - [FWA](https://thefwa.com/cases/loewe-x-howls-moving-castle): Site of the Month (2023) - [FWA](https://thefwa.com/news/fwa-of-the-year-2023-peoples-choice-award-winners-announced): Site of the Year (People's Choice) (2023) - [Webby](https://winners.webbyawards.com/2024/advertising-media-pr/craft/best-multimedia-storytelling/288805/loewe-x-howls-moving-castle): Best Multimedia Storytelling (Honoree) (2024) ## Credits - [Liam Brummit](https://brm.io/) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - Adrian Friend (Technical Lead) - Jenny Smart (Producer) - [Sam Miles](https://sam-miles.com/work) (Motion) ## Said about the project > The world we are living in needs a counteract: not as an escape, but as a different outlook. But few people know Sudan even has pyramids at all. Through an immersive 3D site and WebXR experience you can uncover the unique pyramids of Meroë, wherever you are. - Launched: 2022/05/24 - Studio: [Google Brand Studio](https://emea.brandstudio.goog/) - Live: https://g.co/meroe - Stack: HTML, CSS, TypeScript, WebGL, WebXR - Page: https://pim.dev/work/meroe ## About the project Sudan is home to more pyramids than anywhere else in the world—over 200 structures—yet few people know Sudan has pyramids at all. The Pyramids of Meroë were built beginning in 270 BCE over a period of 700 years, serving as burial sites for the Kushite monarchs who ruled the lands of Nubia for over 3,000 years. Meroë was the third and final capital of the Kushite Kingdom, one of the great African civilizations that once covered over 1,500 km of the Nile Valley, including ruling over Egypt from around 760 to 656 BCE (commonly called "the Black Pharaohs"). Google Arts & Culture has been digitalizing imagery for virtual experiences of historical landmarks since 2013, covering over 20 sites including Petra in Jordan and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The Pyramids of Meroë experience was conceived to help share the culture and heritage of the Middle East & North Africa region with the world, making this UNESCO World Heritage Site accessible to global audiences. The project took a multi-modal approach to storytelling, offering visitors three distinct ways to engage: 1. **Narrated Audio Experience**: Content narrated by acclaimed Sudanese-American poet and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Emi Mahmoud, paired with immersive sound design 2. **Scrollytelling Interface**: Users can scroll through the site to explore 3D visuals and read content at their own pace 3. **Augmented Reality**: Explore pyramids up close in their own space, accompanied by audio snippets Hand-drawn illustrations by Louise Zergaeng Pomeroy complemented the photogrammetry-based 3D models, creating a visual language that bridged historical documentation with artistic interpretation. The experience was made available in five languages: Arabic, English, French, German, and Spanish. Expert historical advisors Dr. Shadia Taha and Dr. Khaled Elgawady ensured accuracy of the cultural and historical content. UNESCO also curated dedicated content about Meroë's archaeological site, Gebel Barkal and the Napatan region, and Sudan's Sanganeb Marine National Park. The project brought together several key technologies: - **Photogrammetry**: Google Brand Studio used drones to film and photograph pyramids from different angles, stitching together imagery to build 3D representations of key locations - **WebGL/WebXR**: The immersive experience was built on Three.js, delivering 3D content directly in the browser - **Street View Integration**: 360-degree panoramic imagery enabling users to virtually walk through the pyramids and zoom in on ancient inscriptions - **Augmented Reality**: WebXR capabilities on Chrome for latest Android devices, packaged at only 2.6MB - **LIT Framework**: Lightweight templating for efficient component management For the interior 3D models, the team created a basic block-out using correct dimensions, then married the 3D model to high-resolution photographic textures sourced by Google Brand Studio. Draw & Code collaborated on 3D and AR components, running models in a test Three.js environment to validate browser performance. Storyboard documents explained how 3D and AR components fitted into the overall "scrollytelling" UX. ## Challenges The project required solving complex challenges around: - **AR Space Interactions**: Designing and implementing user experience for augmented reality from scratch, as WebXR was still experimental - **Designer Tools**: Creating accessible interfaces for designers to control complex shader parameters and camera movements - **3D Asset Optimization**: Advising on geometry topology to ensure models performed well in a web browser context - **Cross-Platform Compatibility**: Ensuring the AR experience worked on Chrome for the latest Android devices while maintaining a 2.6MB download size ## Results The project achieved significant recognition across multiple award platforms and received widespread media coverage: - Featured in Al Jazeera as an exclusive launch partner - Coverage in The National, Zawya, and various technology publications - Recognized as Google's latest effort to digitally preserve and share MENA cultural heritage - Made accessible content about Sudanese heritage that was previously unknown to global audiences - AR experience delivered at only 2.6MB, demonstrating optimization for mobile web ## Awards - [FWA](https://thefwa.com/cases/pyramids-of-meroe): Site of the Day (2022) - Launched: 2020/05/14 - Client: [Spotify](https://spotify.com/) - Studio: [Stink Studios](https://www.stinkstudios.com/) - Live: https://spotify.design - Stack: HTML, CSS, TypeScript, Gatsby - Page: https://pim.dev/work/spotify-design ## About the project By 2020, Spotify had evolved significantly — growing into an audio-first company, doubling down on podcasts, and expanding from a handful of designers to almost 200. The original Spotify.Design website, launched in December 2018, needed a refresh to reflect this growth and the company's new brand identity. In 2018 and 2019, Spotify began to play a stronger role in the global design community, developing a brand through an external website, social media, and events. In September 2019, the team took a hard look at what they'd done and realized designers were pushing the Spotify Design brand system to its breaking point. After seeing Stink Studios' work on Spotify Pet Playlists, Spotify chose the award-winning London team as their partner for the site redesign. The goal was to create an inspiring resource for the design community while providing a platform to showcase the talented individuals inside Spotify. **Discovery & Research:** The team conducted interviews with 300+ creative employees across operations, engineering, UX writing, art direction, and design. Key descriptors identified were "inclusive," "approachable," and "friendly." **Brand Design by Albin Holmqvist:** For the initial design exploration, Spotify partnered with independent art director Albin Holmqvist, who had just completed a bold brand refresh for their flagship playlist Altar. Albin was asked to focus on attributes like adaptability, diversity, quality-driven, warm & friendly, and human-centered. Bright hues quickly became a central theme. They wanted to stay away from the neutral, muted colors and dark design themes so closely associated with Spotify, hoping to deliver something more unexpected. Albin's experience as an editorial art director made him brave with color. The brand's new DNA—bursts, action lines, and hand-drawn highlights—started to take shape. Those accents exuded the personality they were looking for, and were refined and carried over to the final design system. **Stockholm Workshop:** A workshop in Stockholm gave the teams the opportunity to interrogate the brief together while co-creating ideas and concepts, with global participants joining remotely. **Design Principles:** - **Playful and Delightful**: The site taps into Spotify's new brand's playful DNA with motion and interaction elements - **Skip and Shuffle Navigation**: Playful nods to Spotify's audio expertise allow visitors to navigate through content archives in familiar ways - **In the Spotlight**: A homepage section featuring designer profiles - **Listen Feature**: Curated playlists by Spotify designers accessible throughout the site **Ideation & Wireframes:** The team kicked off with a series of ideation workshops. The resulting ideas were rated on a matrix of newness, usefulness, feasibility, playfulness, and brand relevance. Features with the highest scores were scoped and developed. Over a week or so, wireframes were clarified and codified into design templates that met accessibility standards. Stink Studios then tapped into the new brand's playful DNA to develop delightful bits of motion and interaction. **Technology Stack:** - HTML, CSS, TypeScript - Gatsby (React-based static site generator) - GraphQL for data layer - Spotify Web API and Web Playback SDK **Listen Section - Technical Innovation:** One of the most challenging and innovative aspects of the build was the "Listen" section. This was one of the first instances of Spotify's beta Web Playback API being used outside the core product, allowing music to follow the user throughout the site without interruption. The Listen hub uses two public Spotify SDKs: - **Web API**: Accesses playlist data (titles, descriptions, tracklists) - **Web Playback SDK**: Handles audio playback—the same technology powering Spotify's Web Player For Premium users, an embedded in-site mini-player loads directly on the page. The player was built so listeners can navigate the site, read stories, and continue listening uninterrupted. For Free users or those accessing via Safari, mobile, or tablet, they're taken to the web player. **Accessibility Excellence:** Accessibility and usability are at the heart of the site, following A11Y and WCAG 2.1 standards to level AA as a minimum. The team exceeded baseline accessibility expectations to make Spotify Design truly inclusive. ## Awards - [SiteInspire](https://www.siteinspire.com/website/9483-spotify-design): Feature (2020) - [Awwwards](https://www.awwwards.com/sites/spotify-design): Honourable Mention (2020) ## Credits - [Andrew Sellers](https://andrewsellers.co.uk/) (Front End Developer, Technical Lead) - [David Fiz Querol](https://davidfiz.com/) (Designer) - Sam Steele (User Experience) - Rhianon Taylor (Producer) - Hannah Lynd (Producer) ## Said about the project > Within design—especially at larger organisations like ours—there is a pressure to always show the finished, polished article. In early 2025, the company launched "New Again" — a new creative platform capturing the joy of shopping second-hand and the possibilities it opens up. The "New Again" feeling is about the pride in a find, the joy in a sale, and the freedom to reinvent oneself without worry or waste. Re~invinted was created as a data-powered campaign to support this platform, revealing the behaviors of millions embracing second-hand shopping. The project spotlights the unique habits driving the Vinted community, reflecting the diverse mindsets of buyers and sellers with differing tastes, desires, and motivations. The campaign was based on real Vinted member data collected between December 2023 and December 2024, presenting never-before-shared insights that challenge preconceptions of the second-hand world. The creative approach centered on transforming complex platform data into an engaging, accessible experience. Stink Studios worked with Vinted's data insights team to identify 32 unique "pre-loved personality" traits — far more than the initial assumption of 6-8 personas. Key personas include: - **Negotiator** — Masters the art of the deal - **Hotshot** — Quick to spot and snap up trending items - **Sneakerhead** — Focused on footwear finds - **Retroholic** — Drawn to vintage and nostalgic pieces - **Bundler** — Maximizes value through bundle purchases - **Novelist** — Creates detailed, story-rich listings The experience features 3D elements, interactive assets, and playful design reflecting Vinted's eclectic spirit and sustainable ethos. Specific items and illustrations were designed to reflect the data — from luxury bags for "Lux Lovers" to illustrated data visualizations. The tactility of the 3D cards and playful interactions build a feeling of joy that the Vinted brand celebrates, aimed at bringing "a sense of refined realness and physicality to the campaign, by embracing and celebrating the tactility and imperfections of the pre-loved world." The Re~invinted experience was built using: - **React** for the interactive web application - **TypeScript** for type-safe development - **HTML/CSS** for structure and styling Key technical challenges included: - Creating a design system that flexes to fit multiple languages (English, French, Polish, German) across different devices - Building interactive 3D cards with smooth, engaging animations - Visualizing complex data in accessible and playful ways - Supporting a personality quiz with 32 distinct outcome paths The experience was designed to be "addictive as it is insightful, encouraging users to explore by scroll, scroll, and scrolling some more." ## Challenges **Multi-language Challenge:** The experience needed to work in multiple languages while maintaining the creative integrity of the design system. This required building flexible layouts that could adapt to varying text lengths and character sets. **Data Visualization:** Transforming "hardcore data" into something "delightful to explore" required careful consideration of how to present complex insights in accessible, playful ways. ## Results **Campaign Performance:** - Launched across 4 major European markets simultaneously (UK, France, Poland, Germany) - Featured 32 unique pre-loved personalities - Presented data insights including: 19% of sales start with a DM, sellers are most open to offers between 6pm and 9pm, and 30% of all members have only 5-star reviews **Awards Won:** - Campaign's Ad of the Day (February 4, 2025) - FWA Site of the Day (March 30, 2025) **Industry Reception:** - Featured across major advertising and design publications including Campaign, Creative Bloq, Shots, Marketing Beat, and TrendWatching - Highlighted as an example of effective data storytelling in the "SECOND LOVE" trend category ## Awards - Campaign: Ad of the Day (2025) - [FWA](https://thefwa.com/cases/reinvinted): Site of the Day (2025) ## Credits - Siân Mulligan (Producer) - Poppy Broster-Becker (Producer) - [Mateusz Kolaczynski](https://uk.linkedin.com/in/mateusz-kolaczynski-b1578939) (Producer) - [Songyee Kim](https://dribbble.com/dimensionworld) (Designer) - Viv Greywoode (Art Director) - [Karen Chiu](https://github.com/karenchiu) (Front End Developer) - [Christine Zhang](https://christinezhang.com/) (Art Director, Designer) - Adrian Friend (Technical Lead) ## Said about the project > At Vinted, we're all about making the most of what we already have because when an item that isn't brand new is sold, it becomes new again to the person who buys it. The initiative was backed by $1 billion in Google.org grants over five years and 1 million volunteer hours committed by Google employees globally. Its mission is to help people develop digital skills to advance their careers and grow their businesses. The grow.google website serves as the central digital hub for the initiative, providing access to free online courses, career certificates, business tools, and local training resources. The platform operates in 30+ languages with country-specific resources across regions including the US, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Pim's role bridged design and engineering — creating scalable templates, implementing the design system, testing UX and accessibility, optimizing file sizes, and ensuring cross-device compatibility. ## Challenges The grow.google platform presented unique challenges given its global reach and audience diversity. The site needed to: - Serve 30+ languages across multiple regional variants (US, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia) - Remain performant on low-end devices and slow connections, as many target users were in underserved communities - Maintain a consistent design system while accommodating diverse content types and regional needs - Meet Google's high standards for accessibility and usability ## Results The Grow with Google initiative has achieved significant measurable outcomes: - **12+ million Americans** trained in digital skills since 2017 - **15+ million people** trained across Europe since 2015 - **9,000+ partner organizations** including libraries, schools, and nonprofits - **70%+ of certificate graduates** report positive career outcomes within six months - **150,000 scholarships** committed for EMEA region - **1 million+ Career Certificate graduates** (milestone reached by 2024) - **150+ employer consortium members** including Deloitte, Infosys, Etsy, Target, Verizon, and Google - **40,000+ visitors** to the NYC Learning Center in its first five months ## Credits - Bradley Griffiths (Technical Lead) - Craig Rogers (Front End Developer) - Maria Stark (Producer) ## Press - Fast Company: [Grow with Google — 2022 Innovation by Design Awards](https://www.fastcompany.com/90767941/this-google-program-is-helping-black-and-latino-entrepreneurs-grow-their-businesses) — Program helps Black and Latino entrepreneurs; expanded to 16 states in 5 years - Inc.: [Google Pledges $1 Billion to Improve Education Levels Worldwide](https://www.inc.com/associated-press/google-sundar-pichai-1-billion-nonprofit-organizations-boost-education-grow-with-google.html) — Sundar Pichai announcement of initiative launch with $1B commitment - 9to5Google: [Google launches $1 billion initiative to teach digital skills worldwide](https://9to5google.com/2017/10/12/grow-with-google-tech-automation/) — Coverage of the original Grow with Google launch - Google Blog: [Opportunity for everyone](https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/grow-with-google/opportunity-for-everyone/) — Official announcement by Sundar Pichai - Google Blog: [Career Certificates Fund](https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/grow-with-google/career-certificates-fund/) — $100 million Career Certificates Fund announcement - European Commission (EPALE): [Google's "Grow with Google"](https://epale.ec.europa.eu/en/content/googles-grow-google) — European Commission recognition of the initiative - EU Digital Skills & Jobs Platform: [Grow with Google pledge](https://digital-skills-jobs.europa.eu/en/inspiration/pledges/grow-google) — Official EU platform listing - Fast Company: [Fast Company - Innovation by Design Winner](https://www.fastcompany.com/90767941/this-google-program-is-helping-black-and-latino-entrepreneurs-grow-their-businesses) - Shorty Awards: [Shorty Awards - Social Good Entry](https://shortyawards.com/4th-socialgood/grow-with-google) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/google-arts-and-culture-generative-rebrand # Google Arts & Culture: Generative Rebrand We created a tool that helps marketers at Google Arts & Culture create high quality imagery for events, socials, prints, and much more. - Launched: 2021/12/20 - Client: [Google Arts & Culture](https://artsandculture.google.com/) - Studio: [Google Brand Studio](https://emea.brandstudio.goog/) - Stack: SVG, TypeScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/google-arts-and-culture-generative-rebrand ## Credits - [Mike Dorrance](https://www.mikedorrance.com/) (Art Director) - [Miguel Desport](https://migueldesport.com/) (Designer) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/forest-gen # ForestGen A procedurally generated terrain. Launched on Global Accessibility Awareness Day (May 20, 2021), the project addresses a stark inequality: while more than 2.2 billion people worldwide are blind or visually impaired, 97% of the top one million websites fail to meet standard accessibility requirements. Traditional screen readers convert text to synthetic speech, stripping away the emotion, emphasis, and nuance that makes storytelling compelling. Auditorial set out to demonstrate that inclusive design can enhance rather than limit a publisher's storytelling capabilities. The creative approach centered on human-first design — rather than retrofitting accessibility features onto an existing design, the team included blind and low-vision collaborators in the design process from inception. The platform offers three distinct ways to experience the same story: a fully customizable audio-visual narrated experience with spatial audio, a written article with enhanced accessibility controls, or reading along with closed captions. The editorial content, provided by The Guardian, tells the story of Bernie Krause, a soundscape ecologist who has spent 50 years tracking the effects of the climate crisis through sound — a topic deliberately chosen for its focus on auditory experience. The team developed 22 adaptive features enabling users to experience the same story in over 100 different ways. Visual customization includes six alternative color palettes, dark mode for photophobia, and motion graphics conversion to static keyframes. Audio capabilities include professional human narration, adjustable playback speed, ambient sound controls, and binaural 3D spatial audio. Content presentation features include narrative alt tags written as descriptions aligned with storytelling rather than succinct labels, and mindful language throughout. The platform was built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular over a seven-month development period, with R/GA's London and São Paulo offices leading creative and technical delivery. All development techniques and research learnings were documented in the Auditorial Accessibility Notebook, published alongside the site as a resource for web creators worldwide to implement inclusive design practices. The project was featured on the Google homepage at launch and won over 10 major industry awards, including a Cannes Lions Silver, two Clio Silvers, an ADC Gold Cube, and recognition at the One Show, D&AD, AICP Next, BIMA, and the Webby Awards. ## Results Over 100,000 readers and makers were reached, with 96% of user testers reporting a vastly improved experience compared to traditional websites. The project was featured on the Google homepage at launch. Inclusive design lectures from Google and RNIB continue to tour the creative community, and the Accessibility Notebook provides ongoing guidance for web developers. The site remains online as an example of accessibility best practice. ## Awards - [ADC](https://www.oneclub.org/awards/adcawards/-award/43089/auditorial/): Publication Design (2022) - [ADC](https://www.oneclub.org/awards/theoneshow/-award/44667/auditorial/): Radio & Audio (2022) - [ADC](https://www.oneclub.org/awards/theoneshow/-award/43471/auditorial/): Design (2022) - [One Show](https://www.oneclub.org/awards/theoneshow/-award/44024/auditorial/): Interactive & Mobile Craft (2022) - [Clio](https://clios.com/winners-gallery/details/139522): Digital Product (Silver) (2022) - [Clio](https://stage.clios.com/winners-gallery/details/139526): User Experience (Silver) (2022) - [Cannes Lions](https://www.lovethework.com/work-awards/campaigns/auditorial-763302): Audio & Radio (Silver) (2022) - [Cannes Lions](https://www.lovethework.com/work-awards/campaigns/auditorial-763302): UX & Journey Design (Bronze) (2022) - [Cannes Lions](https://www.lovethework.com/work-awards/campaigns/auditorial-763302): Personalised Storytelling & Experience (Shortlist) (2022) - [AICP](https://www.adforum.com/award-organization/6678183/showcase/2022/winners?distinction_category=Innovation): Digital Experiences (2022) ## Credits - [Slav Vitanov](http://www.slavvitanov.com/) (Designer, Illustrator) - Craig Rogers (Front End Developer) - Jenny Yeung (Producer) - Ted Wallace-Williams (Technical Lead) - Eduardo Rodrigues Gomes (Front End Developer) ## Said about the project > We hope this experimental project will raise awareness and spark a broader discussion about how the web in its entirety could become a more inclusive place for people with disabilities. > > — Kate Baker, Creative Lead, Google Brand Studio EMEA ([source](https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/rnib-partners-google-guardian-launch-accessible-storytelling-website/1716624)) > We approached The Guardian to work on this because of the lack of equitable access to everyday news. Launched on February 8, 2021, the project fused the ultra-luxury Birkin with the casual Birkenstock to create a deliberate juxtaposition questioning how society attributes value to objects. MSCHF purchased four authentic Birkin bags from resale sites for approximately $122,500, featuring exotic leathers including Porosus Crocodile in burgundy and white, Taurillon Clemence in black, and Ostrich in black. Only around 10 pairs were produced, priced between $34,000 and $76,000 depending on leather type and sandal size. Before cutting the authentic bags, MSCHF practiced the manufacturing process on counterfeit Birkins. Two leather workshops in Brooklyn refused to participate, scandalized by the idea of destroying a Birkin. Each pair featured custom-made vermeil buckles, "Birkinstock" branding in the Birkenstock font, the Hermès horse and carriage motif stamped on the side, and packaging in Hermès's signature orange box with a scarf-like dust bag. MSCHF described the project as a "transubstantiation" rather than a collaboration, deliberately not seeking approval from either Hermès or Birkenstock. The birkinstock.shoes website was built with Vue and Nuxt, serving as the exclusive platform for viewing and ordering the sandals. The site presented the product and handled the made-to-order request system for what the New York Times called "the most exclusive sandal ever made." ## Results All pairs sold out, with three selling before the official launch. Celebrity buyers included rapper Future, singer Kehlani, and an unnamed art collector. Kylie Jenner publicly displayed her black Taurillon Clemence pair on Instagram on February 16, 2021. The project generated massive global press coverage from CNN, the New York Times, Hypebeast, Esquire, and dozens of other publications. MSCHF is represented by Perrotin Gallery, where the Birkinstocks were featured in an exhibition. ## Credits - Lorenz Mager (Producer) - [Niek Dekker](https://niekdekker.com/) (Designer) - Kevin Wiesner (Art Director) - Stephen Tetreault (Producer) ## Said about the project > Birkin bags are like a cultural meme, a symbol for a certain kind of wealth. > > — Lukas Bentel, Creative Director, MSCHF ([source](https://hypebeast.com/2021/2/mschf-hermes-birkenstock-birkin-bag-birkinstock-luxury-house-slipper-custom-jesus-air-max-97-holy-water-brand)) > We're just sort of fascinated with destroying expensive things and creating something new out of them. > > — Daniel Greenberg, Head of Strategy, MSCHF ([source](https://www.thefashionlaw.com/mschf-drops-the-most-exclusive-sandals-ever-made-theyre-called-birkinstocks/)) > We know some people are going to react with, 'What is wrong with you people?' Notting Hill Carnival is the UK's most important event for Black music and Caribbean culture, drawing around two million people to West London every August for celebrations, costumes, food, steel pans, and music from 38+ official sound systems. When the project kicked off in late 2019, the team assumed the partnership would involve a live event — but as the pandemic spread, it became clear that Carnival would go digital. Spotify was named the official 2020 partner, and the dedicated microsite was live from August 24 to September 12, 2020. The creative vision centered on the sound systems — the only carnival in the world to feature multiple static systems — as the conceptual foundation for the entire experience. Speakers were rendered as pulsating, spherical forms representing the life of the party, with typography inspired by vintage Caribbean event posters that appears to vibrate to the sounds. Playlists from all 42 sound systems and DJ legends are stacked on the page like speakers themselves, with artwork that pulses when bass is turned up. The team created 50 unique artworks, each personalizing individual sound systems while maintaining a cohesive identity. Spotify deliberately assembled an all-Black creative team, working with paq works — a Black-owned, London-based creative agency founded by Chiamaka Ojechi, Joshua Allen, and Ebele Davis. British-Jamaican photographer Ekua King was commissioned to create exclusive portraits on film and VHS footage for each sound system. The site was built with React and Gatsby, with GraphQL for data management, delivered in a 3-week development sprint at Stink Studios. The experience featured an interactive exploration of over 40 official sound systems — including King Tubby's (Carnival's oldest sound), Rampage Sound, Martin Jay (the prince of UK soca), and Seduction City Sound (Carnival's only all-female sound system) — with animated artwork, dynamic sonic design, and deep integration with Spotify's playlist infrastructure. The inaugural 2020 edition was so successful that it evolved into a multi-year global campaign running from 2020 to 2023, spanning microsite, out-of-home advertising, and in-real-life initiatives. By 2024, Spotify was celebrating its sixth consecutive year of collaboration with Notting Hill Carnival. ## Results The project won Awwwards Site of the Day and Developer Award, received a D&AD Shortlist in the Service Digitisation category, CSS Winner Site of the Day with a 7.9/10 score, and an FWA feature. It was also nominated for a Music Week Award in the Music Consumer Innovation category. Press coverage included features in Variety, Hypebeast, Music Week, Event Industry News, Voice Online, and the Spotify Newsroom. The project became a template for how cultural events could translate to digital experiences, and was one of the first times sound systems had been highlighted in such a comprehensive digital way. ## Awards - [Awwwards](https://www.awwwards.com/sites/carnival-with-spotify): Developer (2020) - [Awwwards](https://www.awwwards.com/sites/carnival-with-spotify): Site of the Day (2020) - [D&AD](https://www.dandad.org/awards/professional/2021/234413/spotify-x-notting-hill-carnival-carnival-sounds/): Shortlist (2021) - [CSSWinner](https://www.csswinner.com/details/carnival-with-spotify/14955): Site of the Day (2020) ## Credits - [David Fiz Querol](https://davidfiz.com/) (Designer) - [Andrew Sellers](https://andrewsellers.co.uk/) (Front End Developer, Technical Lead) - Vladimir Exil (Front End Developer) - Natalie Goburdhun (Producer) - Sam Steele (User Experience) - [Zoonou](https://zoonou.com/) (Quality Assurance) - [Anton Martinez](https://antonmartinez.com/) (Designer, Art Director) ## Said about the project > Notting Hill Carnival is such an important celebration of Caribbean heritage for communities in London and beyond - enriched in tradition and activism and lived through music and dance. Page: https://pim.dev/work/your-future-self ## About the project British pension provider Scottish Widows (owned by Lloyds Banking Group) sought to increase brand awareness, preference, and consideration by prompting people to think about their future and retirement planning. The challenge was addressing pension apathy - getting younger audiences to engage with a topic that feels distant and abstract. Scottish Widows had been supporting Pension Awareness Day for many years and had previously developed the "Age Me" tool, which allowed users to input their pension savings and retirement goals to see how they would look at retirement age. The "Your Future Self" project represented an evolution of this concept, making the experience more immediate and accessible. The campaign took a "media-first" approach, combining behavioral psychology principles with cutting-edge facial recognition and aging technology. The creative insight was that showing people their future, elderly selves would make retirement feel more tangible and immediate, prompting earlier engagement with pension planning. The experience worked across multiple touchpoints: - **Out-of-Home Installations:** Six-sheet-sized interactive panels deployed in eight UK cities - **Mobile Tour:** Integration with Scottish Widows' mobile advice centres during the annual September tour - **Web Experience:** The scottishwidowsyourfutureself.co.uk platform allowing users to explore their retirement prospects online The project utilized a sophisticated technology stack including: - **HTML/CSS/JavaScript:** Core web technologies for the interactive experience - **WebGL:** For rendering and visual effects - **WebComponents:** For modular, reusable interface elements - **AR (Augmented Reality):** For the facial aging feature The out-of-home component integrated bespoke aging software into interactive panels that captured passersby's faces using cameras and displayed their projected appearance at retirement age in real-time. The web experience extended this functionality with additional pension calculation features based on Office for National Statistics data. Key assumptions built into the calculator: - Life expectancy rates from ONS National Life Tables (2020-2022 data) - Annual investment growth rate of 4% with 0.75% yearly fund charges - Monthly payments increasing annually in line with Average Weekly Earnings Index - Price inflation assumed at 2.0% annually - UK tax rules and pension contribution limits applied ## Challenges The project presented several technical challenges: 1. **Real-time facial processing:** Implementing smooth, performant facial detection and aging effects in the browser 2. **Cross-device compatibility:** Ensuring the AR and WebGL features worked across different devices and browsers 3. **Performance:** Balancing visual quality with responsiveness for the interactive elements ## Results **Campaign Metrics:** - **3,600** direct interactions with the out-of-home advertisement installations - **11,000** visits to Scottish Widows' mobile tour trucks - Campaign deployed across **8 UK cities** - Aligned with **Pension Awareness Day** (September 2019) ## Credits - Jim Hunt (Technical Lead) - Kate Sutherland (Producer) - Alex Callow (Front End Developer) - [Damien Mortini](https://damienmortini.com/) (Creative Technologist) - Sam Steele (User Experience) ## Said about the project > MediaCom devised this campaign in eight UK cities which integrates bespoke ageing software into six-sheet-sized panels, capturing passersby's faces and showing them what they will most probably look like at retirement age. > > — Campaign Tech Awards Judges, Campaign Tech Awards 2020 ([source](https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/campaign-tech-awards-2020-best-use-tech-out-of-home/1686741)) > The judges recognized this as a creative, technology-driven approach to behavioral change that effectively combined experiential tech with meaningful consumer engagement around an important financial planning topic. > > — Campaign Tech Awards 2020 Jury ([source](https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/campaign-tech-awards-2020-best-use-tech-out-of-home/1686741)) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/improved-print # Improved Print A native custom-element that turns links into neat footnotes on print. - Launched: 2019/08/17 - Live: https://github.com/pimdewit/improved-print - Stack: JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/improved-print --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/premier-partner-awards # Premier Partner Awards Celebrating excellence in digital marketing. - Launched: 2019/08/13 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://premierpartnerawards.withgoogle.com/ - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Google Closure, Jinja2 - Page: https://pim.dev/work/premier-partner-awards ## Credits - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) - Stu Collett (Technical Lead) - [Nick Sarbicki](https://nick.sarbicki.com/) (Back End Developer) - Faye Butler (Back End Developer, Front End Developer) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/strandsy # Strandsy An infinite amount of grid-systems with generative graphics and interactions. - Launched: 2019/06/23 - Live: https://strandsy.web.app/ - Stack: JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/strandsy --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/veczor # Veczor A JavaScript library that helps you do performant & controlled SVG animations. - Launched: 2019/06/19 - Live: https://veczor.web.app/ - Page: https://pim.dev/work/veczor --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/diana-costa # Diana Costa Personal portfolio of digital designer Diana Costa. - Launched: 2019/05/27 - Live: https://dianacosta.co.uk - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/diana-costa ## Awards - [SiteInspire](https://www.siteinspire.com/website/8846-diana-costa): Feature (2019) ## Credits - [Diana Costa](https://dianacosta.co.uk) (Designer) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/trillion-dollar-coach # Trillion Dollar Coach The Leadership Handbook of Silicon Valley’s Bill Campbell. - Launched: 2019/04/16 - Client: [Eric Schmidt](https://ericschmidt.com/) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://www.trilliondollarcoach.com/ - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/trillion-dollar-coach ## About the project Trillion Dollar Coach is a promotional website built for Eric Schmidt, Jonathan Rosenberg, and Alan Eagle's book "Trillion Dollar Coach: The Leadership Playbook of Silicon Valley's Bill Campbell." Published by HarperBusiness on April 16, 2019, the book draws on interviews with over 80 people who knew Bill Campbell — the legendary Silicon Valley coach whose mentoring helped build companies collectively worth over a trillion dollars, including Google, Apple, and Intuit. The website serves as the primary digital hub for the book, offering an immersive JavaScript-driven experience that brings the story of Bill Campbell to life. The design pairs a clean typographic approach — using Roboto and Arial in light weights — with subtle fade-in animations and a refined light color palette. Accessibility was considered throughout, with focus-visible states and optimized web font loading using session storage caching. The site was built at Toaster, the creative agency that originated from Google Creative Lab in London in 2010. Eric Schmidt's connection to Google made Toaster a natural partner for the project. The development team included technical leads, a creative technologist, a designer/art director, and a producer working together to deliver the site in time for the book's launch. ## Results The book became a #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller, New York Times Bestseller, and USA Today Bestseller. The website remains live at trilliondollarcoach.com. ## Credits - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) - [Jonny Thaw](https://jthaw.me) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - Sean Simone (Producer) - Stu Collett (Technical Lead) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/gif-maker # Data Gif Maker Easily create and share data visualizations to help bring your stories to life. - Launched: 2019/01/28 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://datagifmaker.withgoogle.com - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, React - Page: https://pim.dev/work/gif-maker ## About the project Data GIF Maker was originally conceived by Google News Lab as a tool for data journalists, and built by Toaster agency. The original version launched on May 25, 2017, announced by Simon Rogers (Data Editor at Google News Lab). The initial version was intentionally simple: it allowed users to compare two terms using animated bar-style GIFs, primarily designed for visualizing Google Trends search interest data. The original tool was limited to comparing just two data points. Pim de Wit was involved as a developer on this original 2017 version. The tool gained significant traction among journalists, educators, and content creators worldwide. People used it to compare everything from famous fonts to favorite dishes, from electoral college results to sports statistics. It was featured extensively in journalism training programs and educational curricula. **Technology Stack (V1/V2):** - HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Canvas-based visualization rendering - GIF export **Key Technical Features (V1):** - Two-term data comparison - Single bar-style animated visualization - GIF export **Key Technical Features (V2):** - Three-term data comparison (Rectangles template) - Three visualization templates: Rectangles, Racetrack, Circles - GIF export ## Results The tool achieved widespread adoption across multiple sectors: - **Journalism**: Adopted by major news organizations and journalism training programs. Featured in Google News Initiative training resources and the Virginia Press Association's visualization courses. - **Education**: Used by educators for teaching data literacy. Described as useful for depicting Electoral College results and other educational datasets. - **Business**: Adopted for presentations, reports, and social media content. - **Global Reach**: Users worldwide created GIFs for diverse purposes ranging from data journalism to social media content. ## Credits - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) - [Jonny Thaw](https://jthaw.me) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - [Bryan Jhung](https://bryanjhung.com/) (Designer) - Alex Thurman (Designer) - Rozalia Jaki (Producer) - James Philips (Art Director) - [Blake Landry](https://cargocollective.com/blakeplandry) (Motion) ## Said about the project > Data visualizations are an essential storytelling tool in journalism, and though they are often intricate, they don't have to be complex. > > — Simon Rogers, Data Editor, Google News Lab ([source](https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/google-news-initiative/make-your-own-data-gifs-our-new-too/)) ## Press - TechCrunch: [Google's Data GIF Maker lets you, uh, make data GIFs](https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/25/googles-data-gif-maker-lets-you-easily-make-basic-data-gifs/) — Noted it's "mostly geared toward journalists" but anyone can use it. When customers saw a dip in ad performance, they'd switch off — often before making the simple adjustments that would've turned things around. The ask was a direct mail campaign that would educate customers on keeping their campaigns effective. ## Challenges The brief started as "send them a gift." We came back with something more interesting: an AR experience delivered entirely through a web browser, no app store involved. Customers could point their phone at a physical mailer and watch a rocket launch — while learning what to do with their Google Ads along the way. Getting it to work across the range of devices people actually own was the real challenge. WebXR wasn't where it is today, so we had to find a path that was both technically reliable and genuinely easy to share. We wanted a rocket that felt like a toy — something that triggered a bit of nostalgia rather than a tech demo. Three routes were developed, each pulling from a different visual direction. The polygon style won out. It had the right amount of charm, and as a bonus, the low surface count meant snappier performance on mid-range phones. Practical and characterful. We moved into AR prototyping early — better to find out quickly whether scale, tracking, and responsiveness actually worked than to discover problems later. The iteration loop between creative and dev was tight throughout. ## Credits - [Jon Burrow](https://www.jonburrow.co.uk/) (Art Director) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) - Lucie Kalinova (Designer) - [Phil Wayer](https://philwdesign.squarespace.com/) (Motion, Designer) - [Roberto Cascavilla](http://www.otlabs.net/) (Creative Technologist) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/posenet-3d # PoseNet 3D An attempt to perceive depth by analysing facial features. - Launched: 2018/12/21 - Live: https://foundry-posenet.web.app/ - Stack: JavaScript, TensorFlow - Page: https://pim.dev/work/posenet-3d --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/focusmanager # FocusManager A utility class that aides with computational focus. - Launched: 2018/11/09 - Live: https://github.com/pimdewit/focusmanager - Stack: JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/focusmanager --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/google-retail # Google for Retail Connect with shoppers, anywhere. - Launched: 2018/10/14 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://google.com/retail - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jinja2 - Page: https://pim.dev/work/google-retail ## Credits - Andy Law (Front End Developer) - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) - Rozalia Jaki (Producer) - [Jon Burrow](https://www.jonburrow.co.uk/) (Art Director) - [Phil Wayer](https://philwdesign.squarespace.com/) (Motion, Designer) - Lucie Kalinova (Designer) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/toaster # Toaster Portfolio of digital design studio Toaster. - Launched: 2018/08/28 - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://toaster.co - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/toaster ## Credits - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) - [Jonny Thaw](https://jthaw.me) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - [Liam Brummit](https://brm.io/) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - [Marco Ciampini](https://marcociampini.io/) (Front End Developer) - [Will Donohoe](https://willdonohoe.com/) (Front End Developer) - Alex Thurman (Designer) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/google-hire # Hire Landing page for Google's applicant tracking system & recruiting software. - Launched: 2018/07/09 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://hire.google.com - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Google Closure, Jinja2 - Page: https://pim.dev/work/google-hire ## Credits - [Marco Ciampini](https://marcociampini.io/) (Front End Developer) - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/google-careers # Google Careers Search for your career at Google. - Launched: 2017/09/20 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://careers.google.com/ - Page: https://pim.dev/work/google-careers ## About the project Google enlisted Toaster to help them attract the best and brightest talent from across the world. Improving on their current /Careers platform, we were asked to create a progressive and engaging website to reflect life at Google and position the brand as an innovator and front-runner in the tech world. ## Challenges Working in collaboration with Google marketing, legal and people teams, we began by taking a holistic look at the Careers portal as a whole; what it does and doesn’t do, and what it could become. We then developed an editorial content strategy offering curious minds and potential applicants a window into the world of Google, using relevant stories from the people that live and breathe it every day - Googlers. Next, we undertook a huge photoshoot across Google Campuses in Mountain View and San Francisco to ensure /Careers presented an authentic reflection of Google life. Then finally, to house all the content, we went on to redesign not only the website’s look, but the core experience too, reimagining its UX and IA. --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/youtube-advertising # Youtube Advertising Marketing site for the Youtube Advertising programme. - Launched: 2017/08/08 - Client: [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://youtube.com/ads - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Google Closure, Jinja2 - Page: https://pim.dev/work/youtube-advertising ## Credits - [Will Donohoe](https://willdonohoe.com/) (Front End Developer) - [Marco Ciampini](https://marcociampini.io/) (Front End Developer) - [Jonny Thaw](https://jthaw.me) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/internet-citizens # Internet Citizens A program by YouTube that helps young people to stay resilient and confident online and use their voice to drive social change. - Launched: 2017/07/05 - Client: [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://internetcitizens.withyoutube.com/ - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/internet-citizens ## Credits - [Jonny Thaw](https://jthaw.me) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - [Davy McGeorge](http://davymacca.com/) (Technical Lead) - Alex Thurman (Designer) - Roslyn Barnfield (Producer) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/alphago-future-of-go # The Future of Go Summit Legendary players and DeepMind's AlphaGo explore the mysteries of Go together. - Launched: 2017/05/23 - Client: [DeepMind](https://deepmind.com/) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://events.google.com/alphago2017/ - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/alphago-future-of-go ## About the project The Future of Go Summit (Chinese: 中国乌镇围棋峰会) was a historic five-day event held from May 23-27, 2017, in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, China. It was organized by Google DeepMind in collaboration with the China Go Association, Sport Bureau of Zhejiang Province, and local authorities. The event was held in Wuzhen, the permanent host of the World Internet Conference. This was Google's biggest public event in partnership with the Chinese government since Google China's search engine was moved out of mainland China to Hong Kong in 2010 due to government censorship. The summit was seen as a diplomatic initiative by Google toward Chinese officials, part of an effort to reopen China's market. The website at [events.google.com/alphago2017](https://events.google.com/alphago2017) served as the official platform for live streaming the matches and providing game records. The site hosted SGF (Smart Game Format) files for users with Go software who wanted to replay the games. The event featured three innovative game formats designed to explore the boundaries of human-AI collaboration: 1. **Ke Jie vs AlphaGo** — A classic 1:1 match of three games between AlphaGo and the world's number one player, Ke Jie 2. **Pair Go** — Top professionals Gu Li and Lian Xiao each had their own AlphaGo teammate, alternating moves in tag team style to demonstrate collaborative learning between humans and AI 3. **Team Go** — Five world champion players (Chen Yaoye, Zhou Ruiyang, Mi Yuting, Shi Yue, and Tang Weixing) joined forces to play against AlphaGo, testing the AI's creativity and adaptability The summit also included a forum on "The Future of A.I." featuring discussions on how AlphaGo generated new knowledge about Go and how machine learning techniques could address global challenges. The website was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as the core technology stack. It was built by Toaster agency, founded by ex-Google creatives, with front-end development led by team members including Pim de Wit and Liam Brummit. The version of AlphaGo used at the Summit was AlphaGo Master, running on four TPUs on a single machine with an Elo rating of 4,858. DeepMind claimed this version was 3 stones stronger in games of self-play than the version used against Lee Sedol in 2016. ## Credits - [Liam Brummit](https://brm.io/) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - Alberto Giorgi (Technical Lead) - Sean Simone (Producer) ## Said about the project > Last year, it was still quite humanlike when it played. Toaster was asked to develop a website that engages curious minds, promotes the Science Journal (an ingenious app that helps collect data from the environment), and fosters a connection between students and teachers. An engaging website that hosts fun activities and content designed to provoke their curiosity; features the Science Journal; and allows students and teachers to connect, collaborate and share their experiences via the Forum. The creation of the website was a real team effort between Google and Toaster - with the result being a brilliant responsive website full of animations and parallax, translated into more than 40 languages. The website makes use of leading-edge technologies, such as the highly anticipated Polymer library and custom elements to create autonomous UI components. We chose to make the site a Progressive Web App to provide a native experience, whilst Service Workers ensure the site can be viewed both online and offline. The website is fully accessible for everyone - colour contrast, focus and even screen-reading are a few examples among many we thoroughly tested to make the application all-inclusive. ## Results The Science Journal app ran successfully for several years under Google before graduating to Arduino in September 2020, with Arduino taking over stewardship of the free, open-source app on both Android and iOS. The makingscience.withgoogle.com website remains live, continuing to serve as an educational resource through Google for Education. ## Credits - Alberto Giorgi (Technical Lead) - Andy Law (Front End Developer) - [Roberto Sobachi](https://robertosobachi.com/) (Front End Developer) - Sophie Richaume (Producer) - [Adam Brewer](http://brewerlogic.com/) (Front End Developer) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) ## Press - Google Blog: [Inspiring future makers and scientists with Science Journal](https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/education/inspiring-future-makers-and-scientists/) — Chris DiBona announced the Making & Science initiative and Science Journal app at Bay Area Maker Faire 2016. - Google Open Source Blog: [Opening up Science Journal](https://opensource.googleblog.com/2016/08/opening-up-science-journal.html) — Google open-sourced the Science Journal app and published the core source code alongside Arduino firmware for external sensor connectivity. - Make: Magazine: [10 Simple Projects That Harness the Power of Google Science Journal](https://makezine.com/2016/10/07/10-simple-projects-harness-power-google-science-journal/) — Make: featured 10 hands-on science projects using the Science Journal app, developed in partnership with the Exploratorium. - Google Open Source Blog: [Science Journal graduates from Google to Arduino](https://opensource.googleblog.com/2020/09/science-journal-graduates-from-google.html) — Google announced the transfer of the Science Journal app to Arduino for continued open-source stewardship. --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/blogger # Blogger Landing page for one of the biggest blogging platforms at the time. - Launched: 2016/02/09 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://blogger.com/about - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Page: https://pim.dev/work/blogger ## Credits - Alberto Giorgi (Technical Lead) - Rakesh Mistry (Designer, Art Director) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/how-google-works # How Google Works The rules for success in the Internet Century. - Launched: 2014/09/23 - Client: [Google](https://google.com) - Studio: [Toaster](https://toaster.co/) - Live: https://howgoogleworks.net - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jinja2 - Page: https://pim.dev/work/how-google-works ## Credits - [Marco Ciampini](https://marcociampini.io/) (Front End Developer) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/work/volkswagen-bannerbahn # Volkswagen GTI Bannerbahn A race across the biggest websites in Holland. - Launched: 2013/11/17 - Client: [Volkswagen](https://www.volkswagen.nl/) - Studio: [ThisPage](https://thispage.amsterdam/) - Live: https://thefwa.com/cases/volkswagen-gti-bannerbahn - Stack: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash - Page: https://pim.dev/work/volkswagen-bannerbahn ## About the project The assignment was to create awareness for the new seventh-generation Golf GTI, not with traditional advertising but in an innovative and attention-grabbing way that fits the character of the Golf GTI - a car synonymous with speed and performance. The campaign needed to establish awareness for the new Golf 7 GTI while reinforcing brand perceptions as "sympathetic and innovative." The target audience was young men with active social networks and an interest in emerging technology - a demographic that responds well to interactive digital experiences rather than passive advertising. The creative concept was elegantly simple: "Everything revolves around speed - both on asphalt and on the digital highway." The GTI Bannerbahn (Banner Track) was conceived as a race across the largest websites in the Netherlands, physically manifested in the real world. On September 13, 2013, the new Volkswagen Golf GTI raced at Twente Airport over a massive course of 2,000 square meters featuring life-sized paintings of four major Dutch websites: NU.nl, De Telegraaf, Autoweek, and GeenStijl. Each website was painted at 22 x 24 meters scale. The artist collective "Kwasten Met De Gasten" spent 5 days recreating the websites as realistically as possible on the asphalt of Twente Airport, using approximately 900 liters of paint. When the GTI actually raced over this "BannerBahn" in real life, the action was streamed live into the banner ad spaces on those actual websites. The challenge for visitors was to "catch" the GTI in the banner with a single mouse click. The fastest clicker would win a brand new Golf GTI. The technical development was handled by ThisPage (thispagecannotbefound.com) and Adrime, with close collaboration from media agencies Mediacom and Social Embassy to make the race possible across the biggest websites in the Netherlands. Key technical challenges and solutions included: **Live Streaming Infrastructure**: The race needed to be broadcast in real-time across multiple major Dutch websites simultaneously, synchronized with banner ad placements on NU.nl, De Telegraaf, Autoweek, and GeenStijl. **Drone Camera System**: Originally, a cherry picker with a camera on the track was considered, but this proved unsafe. The team opted for streaming cameras mounted on a drone to capture the racing GTI from above - an innovative solution for 2013. **Banner Technology**: The team worked together with ThisPage to find the most efficient and stable approach for delivering live video content through banner ad infrastructure across multiple publisher platforms. **Click Detection and Timing**: The system needed to accurately capture and timestamp user clicks across multiple websites to determine the winner, while managing high traffic volumes during the live event. The campaign represented a unique collaboration with Dutch publishers TMG and Sanoma, who provided both editorial and commercial space on their sites to host the Bannerbahn experience over two weeks leading up to and during the event. ## Challenges The technical team at ThisPage faced several challenges: - **Real-time synchronization**: Displaying a live racing event across multiple publisher websites simultaneously - **High-traffic handling**: Managing the volume of users attempting to catch the GTI during the live event - **Banner constraints**: Delivering rich, interactive live video content within the technical limitations of banner advertising in 2013 - **Cross-platform compatibility**: Ensuring the experience worked consistently across different publisher platforms and browser environments ## Results The campaign delivered exceptional results: - **22.5% Click-Through Rate** - Extraordinarily high compared to industry averages of 0.2-0.3% for display ads - **10,000 people** successfully "caught" the GTI during the race - **Reached half of the Netherlands** an average of five times through the integrated media plan - **Winner**: Anton from Hoofddorp achieved the fastest response time and won the grand prize: a brand new Volkswagen Golf GTI The campaign successfully generated substantial attention and positive reception through its seamless blend of spectacular physical spectacle with engaging digital interaction. ## Awards - [FWA](https://thefwa.com/cases/volkswagen-gti-bannerbahn): Site of the Day (2013) - [Esprix](https://www.esprix.nl/esprix/actueel/esprix-winnaars-2014): Duurzame goederen (Gold) (2014) - [Esprix](https://www.esprix.nl/esprix/actueel/esprix-winnaars-2014): Product launch (Silver) (2014) - Eurobest: Silver x2 (2014) - Spin Awards: Gold (2014) - Webby: Banner Campaigns (2014) ## Credits - Edward Tetteroo (Technical Lead) - Jordi Buskermolen (Technical Lead) - Koert Gaaikema (Creative Technologist, Front End Developer, Flash Developer) - [Tim Hoogendijk](http://timhoogendijk.com/) (Front End Developer, Creative Technologist) - [Ben Bos](https://benbos.dev/) (Front End Developer) - Bart de Rijk (Front End Developer) ## Press - Ad Age: [Catch This Volkswagen GTI If You Can, in 'Bannerbahn'](https://adage.com/creativity/work/bannerbahn/32527) — Featured the innovative blend of physical and digital advertising - DutchCowboys: [Het verhaal achter de GTI BannerBahn campagne](https://www.dutchcowboys.nl/advertising/30092) — Behind-the-scenes story of the campaign development - DutchCowboys: [GTI Bannerbahn: Volkswagen organiseert race over levensgrote websites](https://www.dutchcowboys.nl/automotive/29609) — Pre-launch coverage - Nederlands MediaNetwerk: [Jort Schutte van ACHTUNG! over de GTI BannerBahn campagne](https://nederlandsmedianieuws.nl/interviews/jort-schutte-van-achtung-over-de-gti-bannerbahn-campagne-van-volkswagen/) — Interview with art director about campaign concept - Adformatie: [Achtung! introduceert Golf GTI online/fysieke race](https://www.adformatie.nl/purpose-marketing/achtung-introduceert-golf-gti-onlinefysieke-race) — Trade press coverage of campaign launch - Marketing Tribune: [ADCN Peertjesregen winners](https://www.marketingtribune.nl/algemeen/nieuws/2014/04/uitslag-adcn-peertjesregen-in-paradiso/) — Award coverage - FWA: [The FWA - Site of the Day Case Study](https://thefwa.com/cases/volkswagen-gti-bannerbahn) - Ads of the World: [Ads of the World - Campaign Feature](https://www.adsoftheworld.com/campaigns/gti-bannerbahn) --- File: https://agent.pim.dev/creative-technology # Creative Technology WebGL, WebGPU, interactive experiences, immersive campaigns, generative art, and digital installations. Most of my career was forged in the marketing and advertising industry — tight deadlines, ambitious creative briefs, and the constant challenge of making something genuinely interesting within real constraints. That environment taught me to prototype fast, push technical boundaries, and deliver work that holds up under pressure. What I enjoy most is building the systems behind the visuals. I'm drawn to data-oriented design and the Entity Component System pattern — structuring state as flat, typed arrays and running behaviour through composable systems rather than inheritance hierarchies. It's a way of thinking about interactive programs that keeps things fast, modular, and easy to reason about, especially when you're managing thousands of objects at 60fps. The tools have evolved — from WebGL to WebGPU, from canvas hacks to custom rendering pipelines — but the approach stays the same: write shaders (GLSL, WGSL), build procedural systems, and keep the architecture tight enough that the frame budget isn't an afterthought. Whether it's generative art, an immersive brand campaign, or a game-like interface, performance and structure come first. The visuals follow from that. I also try to keep accessibility front of mind, even in work that's heavily visual. That means being conscious of file size, using CSS logical properties, respecting reduced-motion preferences, and following WCAG guidelines where I can — even when the project is a full WebGPU-driven experience. Creative technology shouldn't mean leaving people out. ## Selected work - [WebGPU Experiments 1](https://agent.pim.dev/work/webgpu-experiments-1) — 2025. Not everything I build is a campaign with a launch date. A significant part of my work is product engineering — building platforms and tools that need to be maintained, extended, and relied upon for years. I care about architecture, testability, and writing code that stays clean as the team and codebase grow. As a technical lead, I've set up CI/CD pipelines, driven testing strategies, established code review practices, and mentored engineers at various levels. I think about developer experience as seriously as user experience — good tooling, clear conventions, and fast feedback loops make teams more effective. The product side of my work has taken me through design systems, internal tools, data platforms, and consumer-facing applications. In each case the goal is the same: ship something reliable, make it easy to change, and leave the codebase better than I found it. ## Selected work - [Dossia](https://agent.pim.dev/work/dossia) — 2025. I've been spending more time with AI tooling — using it for development, research, and exploring solutions. Context engineering and prompt design are things I've picked up through regular use: learning what to feed a model, how to structure a conversation with it, and when to ignore its suggestions entirely. Where I find it most interesting is on the engineering side: wiring models into products and building systems where AI output is actually reliable. That means thinking about token limits, context windows, fallback strategies, and the glue code that sits between an LLM and a real product. I'm not an AI researcher or a model trainer — my background is software engineering. But I've found that experience useful for the practical side of AI integration: making it work in production, knowing its limits, and keeping expectations honest. ## Selected work - [Google DeepMind](https://agent.pim.dev/work/google-deepmind) — DeepMind, 2023.
